In 1990, Dale and Cheryl Boomgaarden purchased Gilroy Car Care from Mr. Nielsen and relocated the shop to its current convenient location in Gilroy, CA. Under their ownership, the shop continued to thrive, building strong relationships with local drivers through exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere. Dale and Cheryl’s dedication to the community and to honest auto repair helped shape the business into the respected shop it is today.

When Dale and Cheryl decided to retire in 2017, the next chapter of Gilroy Car Care began with Kristopher Ewing—a longtime customer and friend of both David Nielsen and the Boomgaardens. Kris had first worked alongside David Nielsen in 2010 and was inspired by the shop’s integrity and high standards. “I was always impressed with the level of honesty and care everyone at the shop displayed,” Kris shares. “It’s a car shop owned, operated, and staffed by true car people. I wanted to continue that legacy and level of service.”

Since purchasing Gilroy Car Care in early 2017, Kris has remained deeply committed to preserving the shop’s family-oriented culture and reputation for excellence. His brother, Matt Ewing, now manages daily operations, keeping the business truly family-run and maintaining the personal touch that customers have come to appreciate. Together, they ensure that every customer receives transparent, trustworthy advice and high-quality repairs, regardless of the make or model of their vehicle.
